When they help

  • Training fasted — early mornings, or before iftar in Ramadan.
  • Long or double sessions — football, boxing, CrossFit, endurance.
  • Hard dieting — to help protect muscle on low calories.
  • Hydration — electrolytes (sodium, potassium) replace what you lose in sweat, which matters far more here than in cooler countries.

BCAA or EAA?

BCAAs are three of the nine essential amino acids; EAAs contain all nine, so they are the more complete choice. If you just want more protein, a whey shake is cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need BCAA if I take whey?

Usually not — whey already contains BCAAs. Aminos are mainly useful for fasted training, long sessions or as a flavoured hydration drink.

What is better, BCAA or EAA?

EAAs, because they include all nine essential amino acids instead of three.
