Fat burners, L-carnitine and CLA — what they really do

No supplement burns fat on its own — a calorie deficit does. What fat burners can do is make a diet easier: blunt appetite, lift energy when calories are low and add a small extra burn. We stock 9 options from AED 12.

The main types

  • Thermogenics — usually caffeine plus green tea and similar extracts: appetite and energy support. Count them in your daily caffeine.
  • L-carnitine — helps move fat into cells to be used for energy; most people take it before cardio.
  • CLA — a fatty acid with a small effect on body composition in some studies.

The fat-loss plan that works

Eat 300–500 kcal below maintenance, keep protein high (see protein for weight loss), lift weights 3× a week, walk 8–10k steps and keep taking creatine to hold on to strength. Add a fat burner only if you want extra help with appetite and energy. Not for under-18s, pregnancy, or people with heart conditions; do not combine several stimulant products.

Frequently asked questions

Do fat burners work?

They can help you stick to a diet (appetite, energy) and add a small calorie burn, but without a calorie deficit they will not cause meaningful fat loss.

What is the best supplement for belly fat?

No supplement targets belly fat specifically. A calorie deficit with high protein and training reduces fat everywhere, including the belly.

When should I take L-carnitine?

Most people take it 30–60 minutes before training or cardio, following the dose on the label.
