Vitamins for active people in the UAE — start with vitamin D

Most people in the UAE spend their days indoors, in cars and in air-conditioning, so low vitamin D is very common despite the sunshine. A few basics cover most gaps; here are 29 options from AED 60.

The basics

  • Vitamin D3 — supports bones, immunity, muscle function and mood. Ask your doctor for a blood test; many adults use 1,000–4,000 IU a day, and higher doses only with medical advice.
  • Omega-3 (fish oil) — EPA and DHA for heart, brain and joints, especially if you rarely eat oily fish.
  • Multivitamin — insurance for a busy or restricted diet.
  • Zinc and magnesium — often low in people who sweat a lot; magnesium can also help sleep (see sleep and recovery).

Supplements do not replace a varied diet. If you take medication, are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your doctor first.

Frequently asked questions

Why is vitamin D deficiency common in the UAE?

People spend most of the day indoors, drive everywhere and cover up from the heat, so the skin makes little vitamin D despite the strong sun.

Which vitamins should gym-goers take?

Vitamin D (if low), omega-3 and a multivitamin cover most needs; add magnesium or ZMA if sleep or cramps are an issue.
